My Experience

Roles & Responsibilities

Fall Practicum

September 2021-December 2021

In my Fall Practicum class, I was placed at different schools, one high school and one elementary. I helped the students and teachers with whatever they needed at both schools. I also made a bulletin board at both of these schools and taught lessons to both the high and elementary schools.

Art Shows

May 2019-February 2020

In my first two years of college, I entered my artwork into two different art shows at my community college. In my first art show, I won the Merit Award for my artwork. The second art show my artwork got accepted in was the Intercollegiate Art Show, where community colleges entered their artwork from all over Tennessee.

Cheekwood Summer Camp Instructor

May 2023-Present

After I graduated from MTSU, I spent my summer being a camp instructor where I taught ages 6-10 year olds about art, different artists, and techniques.  So far I have taught Artists Exploration, where the students got to learn and create art inspired by different artists from  the past and the present, Studio Sampler, where students got experiment different art and painting techniques throughout the week, and Let's Paint where young artists get to learn about different ways of painting and different techniques to use in their artworks.  Every summer, I plan to teach a few Summer Camps throughout the summer to help kids curious and excited about learning new things about art.

Spring Practicum

January 2022-April 2022

In my Spring Practicum class, we mainly focused on working with the community to create an art piece for multiple people to see daily. "Be the Missing Piece" was a puzzle piece mural project that began in 2020 during the pandemic. This project initially had ten wooden 5x5 puzzle pieces of different job skills. This year, we've added four more to the list, created in the original design as the other 10. We also learned how to write grants to foundations and organizations to request funds for a project and materials. We also had the privilege to work with the Tennessee School for the Blind on a stop motion video that the students made the props for. Overall, this was an amazing experience to work with stop motion and video editing.

Residency I

August-November 2022

During Residency I, I was placed at Rockvale High School in Rutherford County, where Mrs. Phelps mentored me. During my time with her, I got to experience a proactive classroom environment, see how her teaching styles compared and contrasted with mine, help students out with their projects and assignments, assist Mrs. Phelps with getting her classroom set up for her lessons, and taught a lesson of my own with her Clay II class. I learned a lot about myself as a person and future teacher during my time in her classroom. In addition, she gave me lots of advice for becoming a teacher and an advocate for myself and my students. I am forever grateful for my time at Rockvale High School.

Residency II

January-May 2023

For Residency II, I was placed in Murfreesboro City Schools at John Pittard Elementary, where Ms. Burnette was my mentor teacher throughout the semester. During this time, I did observations with Ms. Burnette and two other teachers in the school who had great qualities in their classrooms that I could implement in my classroom one day. My primary purpose was to make sure I integrated with the different classes as much as I could and make sure I passed my edTPA, which I did:) By the end of the semester, I was teaching all the grades and creating my own lessons with the students, and learned different classroom management styles that worked for me and how the classroom needed to run efficiently. Overall, I loved this placement, and I loved being with the elementary students.

Cumberland Elementary School

August 2023-Present

Since teaching at Cumberland Elementary in Nashville, TN, I've learned and grown much as an educator and person. I've come to love my students and see their talent and skills in art blossom when they come into my room. Their artwork always blows me away, and I couldn't be more proud. I've also learned how to collaborate with grade-level teachers about their curriculum so I can connect it back to the classroom and everyday life. I'm also a part of my school's Disney Club, where I assist after school in teaching and practicing their acting, singing, and dancing skills. I'm so grateful for the skills and experience that Cumberland Elementary has shared with me, and I can't wait to see what the future brings.
